What really sets Campsurf apart from other Los Angeles surf schools are our instructors.  All of our instructors are CPR and First-Aid Certified and are experienced surfers and watermen.  They each bring their own surf culture and stoke to our students through proven teaching techniques.  We are stoked on our crew and can guarantee you will not find a more experienced group of surf instructors at any other surf school.  Below is some information on just a few of our active instructors currently teaching Private Surf Lessons.  During summer months our active staff jumps to up to 20 local surf instructors so check back regularly for updated info.

John Stokke | AKA. Stokke
Surf Instructor

Bio coming soon… Below is a testimonial from a recent surf lesson with Stokke.

Yesterday, I had my second lesson with Stokke. I know I raved about him on my first lesson but just when I thought he couldn’t be any nicer or more encouraging, BOOM!, he was. You see, I have been learning for the past few weeks in Costa Rica and the water was warmer, the waves were softer, it was easier to paddle out and popping up was never and issue. This is not so in Manhattan Beach. The waves are like big punches in the face and with my 5’4″ frame, knock me around making it difficult to paddle out. I had such a difficult time yesterday that when it came time to actually riding a wave I was so tired, scared, frustrated and overwhelmed that I was not very successful.

Stokke was so kind, patient and positive that if it weren’t for him I probably would have quit after the first 40 minutes. He stopped and asked me what was wrong and how could he help? He listened and made a suggestion on having us go to the smaller waves to work a bit more on my basics for the type of waves in MB. Everything took a turn after that and I was back to popping up and riding a few waves.

I have never had such an encouraging, nice and all around fantastic instructor. Stokke clearly has such a passion for the sport and it reflects in his instruction. I will continue to work on my surfing and will highly recommend Campsurf and of course, it’s star instructor, Stokke.
Thank you!

Phyllis
